Neophyte [Ebook]

NeophyteNeophyte by Emmalee Aple
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

" Addisyn White thought she had her new life, her after life, all figured out. Granted death had not brought her to the pearly white gates, she hadn’t even left Earth. But death had its perks; she got to live forever with her best friend and her assigned Link of Angels, in a beautiful beach house. Even with the changes she was going through to turn her human body into an angelic one, everything seemed pretty easy. Until a gray winged angel comes into her life, then all the secrets and lies her Link had been keeping start crumbling away, exposing a whole new world of dangers she didn’t even know about.

Now Addisyn must fill in the blanks before things escalate too far. Will she save her Link? Or will she be buried in their secrets forever?" --GoodReads.com

This novel has everything a teenage -bookish adult- girl needs. First, the crazy girl who questions everything and everyone in her life. Although I don't see much of myself in her, I still like Addi quite a lot. If she actually existed, we would be best friends. Especially since I have a thing for Hunter ;). Second, Action. Yes, you heard me right, I said action. It is a very small part of the novel, but it is so good, it leaves you breathless. I honestly missed 15 minutes of work today just so that I know who won!

Thirdly,They live in a beach house. Who wouldn't like that?!
Finally, Did I mention this book is about hot Angels? I think that one is pretty self-explanatory ;)

I think this book is well written, and the novel has a great plot. If the author were to re-write this book, she would just have to copy and paste, because it is perfecto ! The weird thing in this book is that usually the reader dislikes the evil characters, but I find myself attracted to him. It's like he have this 'hold on me'. I enjoyed this book very much. We had our ups and downs, and I'm very excited for the sequel. I'm dying to know what happens next!

Now, I'm going to spoil some stuff, so if you haven't read the book, please ignore this part and go and read it NOW :)

Xoxo,
Angel.

Eden's Root [Ebook review]

Eden's Root (Eden's Root Trilogy, #1)Eden's Root by Rachel Fisher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The year is 2033 and the world hovers on the edge of explosion as unexplained crop deaths lead to severe global food shortages. In the United States, the Sickness is taking lives slowly, creeping its way into every family. Fi Kelly has already faced the Sickness in her own family, toughening her beyond her years. But a shocking confession from her dying father will push her toughness to its absolute limits. Saddled with an impossible secret and the mission of saving her little sister, Fi sets out to transform herself into the warrior that she must become to survive the coming collapse. Along the way, she will discover that evil can be accidental and that love can be intentional.-Goodreads.

How can I say this without sounding rude?... I loved this book, but got really scared, not roller-coaster-ride scared, but I-have-seen-a-ghost scared. 2033 is AWFULLY close. And the way the author kills humanity is too realistic. I love how she showed us every single detail of Fi's training. Some might say that it should be brief and not so many details to invoke the reader's curiosity. I say the more details the better, I'm reading because I want to sleep in 2 hours or so, I don't want my imagination running wild and giving me freaky nightmares.

This book made me feel weak, just like in the Hunger Games. You know that this end-of-the-world is coming, and those fiction books are giving you a way to avoid it, but you can't use any weapons, Hell, I can't even ride a Bike!! *sigh*

Anyways, I did enjoy the book so very much, and would definetly recommend it :)

Angel.

The Fault In Our Stars [Audiobook Review]

The Fault in Our StarsThe Fault in Our Stars by John Green
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Format: Audiobook

Dear John Green, Do you enjoy breaking my heart with every book you write? First with Looking for Alaska, and now with The Fault in our stars. You keep killing the people that I don't expect to die. And it just happens to be that I enjoy your books so much to the point where I would read it outside of my own room. Big mistake of course, because when I need to cry, and I mostly feel that way, I cannot cry because I don't like crying in front of other people. I suppose you are giving me great practice for not crying in public. But Still! I would like a warning. Like in the back of the book, right after the description, in very tiny letters, write the following; "Angel, please do read this in your room. You will shed tears that would create rivers and seas and oceans.".
Sincerely, no longer has tears to cry with.

I want to go back to when Gus was still with us. Life was much funnier. and now it's simply somewhat empty. I am not saying that I hate Hazel Grace, because if anything, I love her. I'm just saying that I miss him. Which is sad, considering I've only finished the book in about 15 minutes, and the fact that he is actually fiction. I shall not dwell on this anymore. Moving on...

I hate death. I know that at one point or another I told my mom that I'm going to die early, like in my twenties, which might make me seem like I like the idea of death. But I don't. And also, do you know how people say that God needed another Angel when someone dies? FYI, Angels are immortal. God wouldn't need any more angels, just admit that life isn't fair and move on.

Now that you know I hate death, I want you to know that I also love to read books where characters die. It does not matter how, or why, or when, as long as they die. Not just in books, but also in movies, TV shows, and so on. I don't know why I love it. I guess it's because the people who do not die suffer like me, as a living person while your loved one is not a living person. Crazy? tell me about it.

Cool fact about The Fault in Our Stars: it was set between Indiana (where I live) and Amsterdam. I kept recognizing places, and it turns out that I visit the same places that normal people do. Which is something I did not expect of myself, since you know how abnormal I'm :P

I would give this book more than just five stars if goodreads would allow me. It is sarcastic, realistic, and everything you would want when you don't want to do your homework and might be failing your classes simply fascinating. I love you Mr. Green, but next time please be gentle-er on my fragile heart.

Oh, and the Narrator was perfectly perfect! 5 stars for Kate Rudd. I wish she would read me a book every day *sigh*. I tried looking for this quote that I really liked in the book, I found a bunch more of course, but I found one that translates exactly how I feel right now, so here's the quote that I wanted to find:

“The world is not a wish-granting factory.”

and here's the quote about how I feel right now:

“All I could think about now, as night fell, was how much you can love made-up people, and how much you can miss them.”

Truly Genius that John Green guy, truly genius.

Angel.

Hunger Games [Movie Review]

Hi,

I know I haven't written any reviews for a while, and I know most of you expect lame excuses, so make up whatever lame excuse in your head and pretend I said it. Done? Now, do you forgive me? Yes? Awesome, Let's move on, shall we?

For the last few days (more like 70 days, give or take 20 days) I've been obsessed with this... amazing, fabulous, indescribable story that is called the Hunger Games.  As most of you know, the Hunger Games is a book by Suzanne Collins and is one of three other books in the trilogy. It's about the future, sort of. There are 12 districts, and each year, they have to give two of their kids, a boy and a girl, to fight for their lives in the Hunger Games. The reason for it is so that the Capitol does not loose its control over the districts, and to show them that we can kill your kids this easily, how can you ever be free from us. So, on the reaping day, Katniss Everdeen's younger sister, Primrose, gets chosen to go, but Katniss volunteers instead of her. The second tribute from district 12 is Peeta Millark, who happens to have a crush on Katniss. Katniss, however, only remembers him as the boy who threw her a piece of bread when she couldn't get anymore food for her family. And she doesn't want to kill him.

They finally decided to make a movie of  the legendary story. I, of course, would've went to the premiere if I didn't live under my parents roof. Never the less, I watched it on premiere day (Friday), not the first show, but close enough.

I must say, I had really high expectations for this movie, and knowing that usually books turned into movies must disappoint the audience, I was terrified. Oh wait, It didn't suck! That's a first. The movie was exactly as I imagined it, well except for Peeta's actor. But I can get used to it. This movie is absolutely perfect. It's like they went into my brain, and took the ideas and pasted it into the big screen.

I feel like I've cried in almost every seen. I'm not a cry baby, and I hate crying infront of people, and there were some really annoying girls sitting behind her. Yet I cried.

------------------------------------------------SPOILERS ALERT!!!!------------------------------------------------------------

If you have seen the spoilers alert, and have not watched the movie yet, it is not my problem if you don't like it. I warned you.

First scene, District 12. The Meadow. The Reaping. The Goodbyes.
The Seam is the only place that I didn't imagine right. Or they copied it wrong from my brain. I was disapointed that they chose to give Katniss the mockingjay pin from the Seam instead of the Mayor's daughter. But I guess I could forgive them. Gale is as hot as I wanted him to be. and the tension Oh THE TENSION!! and they way he calls her Katnip. I almost forgot about that part. Prim is the sweetest girl I've ever seen. Every time I see her I just want to hug her and cry. It's funny how when they chose her, called her name, whatever, I acted shocked, as if  I didn't know this was going to happen, even though I had a check list in my head!! I guess she meant too much for me. *sigh*. The Cat, LOL that was a funny part. Their mother was alright, I didn't like her in the books, I still don't like her after the movie. OMG EFFIE IS LIKE GORGOUS Y'ALL!! many people make fun of her, but really she's the funniest of them all. So brave pulling that pink hair!! Of course I cried in the Goodbyes part. But now that I remember, they didn't show Peeta's dad giving Katniss the cookies. But since I didn't remember, pass!

Second Scene. The train. The capitol. Capitol People.
Wow. Wow. WOW. WOW.
Funny story, when I looked into the train's food, then looked into my small bag of popcorn, I wanted to be a tribute really bad.
Many of the train scenes make you highly doubt Peeta (which is something the book does more effectively) and makes you really hate Haymitch. Effie is hilarious as usual. lol. and the Capitol People look soo... what's the word for it, Wild? yeah, lets's go with that. They looked Wild. with a lot of colors.

Third Scene. The entrance. The show. The Training. The apple. and Let the games BEGIN!
The girl on fire part was cool, but I had really big fire in my head, so it made it Ok. The fire on the dress of the show was amazing though. I really liked that. I do want that dress by the way, it's beautiful!
The training part was hilarious! How she shot the apple and then they were all looking like O.O and how Haymitch supported her *sigh* amazing.
The beginning of the games was electric. so much tention. so much people dying. just terrible.

Fourth Scene. The Fire. The tracker jackers. Rue.
Whenever I think of the fire, I ask this question: Now Snow, was that Really necessary ?? In the movie, that scene wasn't bad, but I did expect it in the dark, so.... yeah.
Tracker Jacker scene. CRAZY! It's even BETTER than I expected. Of course they didn't show the part where they go into the water, and I have no idea why Peeta isn't hurt by the Tracker Jackers, but Man was that cool!.
It's sad when I see Rue. Because I know sooner or later, she will die. I wish she didn't have to. But she does. The story must go on. *kissing three fingers and raising them to show respect*.

Fifth Scene. Finding Peeta. Peeta and Katniss. Haymitch.
Finding Peeta was kind of too easy. But when she actually found him he scared the shit out of me. If I were Katniss, I would have stabbed him before thinking!
Peeta with Katniss were kind of awkward. But you know what? Haymitch is a really good tutor. I don't think that they would have survived without Haymitch. Kisses or not, they suck as a couple *gagging sound*.

Sixth Scene. FREAKIN' DOGS!! Cato finally dies.
I hate the capitol for making such ugly and scary creatures. I couldn't remember exactly how the dogs would show up. but when they did. Let me give a little advise. If you are holding anything that might spill, please put it down and don't embarrass  yourself. Because the dogs will come. And you will NOT see it coming. and yeah, Cato finally dies, Like the CAWARD HE IS!!

Seventh and Finale Scene. Winning. Going home.
so you know how they plan on eating the poisonous fruits to kill both of them. When the announcer says STOP, I laugh. I can't help it. The relief that runs through me *sigh*.
and when they finally go home and see Gale and her mom and Precious Prim *tears tears*. I'm so happy.

All in all, AMAZING. Looking Forward to the second movie. Hopefully they add more details, and less shaky cameras. :)

xoxo,
Angel.

Between Shades of Gray [Hardcover]

Between Shades of GrayBetween Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Lina is just like any other fifteen-year-old Lithuanian girl in 1941. She paints, she draws, she gets crushes on boys. Until one night when Soviet officers barge into her home, tearing her family from the comfortable life they've known. Separated from her father, forced onto a crowded and dirty train car, Lina, her mother, and her young brother slowly make their way north, crossing the Arctic Circle, to a work camp in the coldest reaches of Siberia. Here they are forced, under Stalin's orders, to dig for beets and fight for their lives under the cruelest of conditions.

Lina finds solace in her art, meticulously - and at great risk - documenting events by drawing, hoping these messages will make their way to her father's prison camp to let him know they are still alive. It is a long and harrowing journey, spanning years and covering 6,500 miles, but it is through incredible strength, love, and hope that Lina ultimately survives. Between Shades of Gray is a novel that will steal your breath and capture your heart."

Please tell me I'm wrong. Tell me that this story isn't actually real. Because if it is, I'm such an ungrateful, selfish creature and I should rot in hell. *Breathe in, Breathe out*

Stalin killed millions. Yet, all people talk about is Hitler. I'm 20 years old, I don't know history, and honestly I never liked it, but the fact that Hitler is popular and Stalin is not, strikes me as weird. The Jews weren't left to die in Siberia, they were killed, burned, simple, easy. They didn't have their mothers die in thier hands, or hear about their fathers die a hundred miles away.
I'm not saying that Hitler did any better than Stalin, they both deserve much worse than Hell, if that ever existed.

Back to the story, shall we? I loved the way the story began. It was easy to read, and I would have had no problem finishing it in a day, if I didn't have school in the morning *Sigh*. I was thankful that I chose to finish the book in my room, for the snobs would have made my brother laugh at me for hours. Of course bad things happened from the beginning, but when you reach chapter 70, it just keeps going downhill. I wanted to stop. I couldn't bear the pain. But I knew that I could only get a piece of mind if I reached the ending. The ending was a bit soothing, like a cough medicine, sweet and stops the cough for a few hours. I know I will wake up tomorrow crying, or even worse, have dreams about it.

I recommend this book to everyone. History lovers, Fiction lovers, Book lovers who love a good cry, this book is made for you, PICK IT UP NOW!

xoxo,
Angel.

Looking For Alaska [Audiobook]

Looking for AlaskaLooking for Alaska by John Green
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Miles Halter is fascinated by famous last words and tired of his safe life at home. He leaves for boarding school to seek what the dying poet Francois Rabelais called the "Great Perhaps." Much awaits Miles at Culver Creek, including Alaska Young. Clever, funny, screwed-up, and dead sexy, Alaska will pull Miles into her labyrinth and catapult him into the Great Perhaps.

Looking for Alaska brilliantly chronicles the indelible impact one life can have on another. A stunning debut, it marks John Green's arrival as an important new voice in contemporary fiction."

I didn't know where this book was going at first. Miles kept counting down, I knew something big was going to happen, like someone suspended, or something. The actual event was a true shocker.

Characters:
Miles 'pudge': Such a cute boy, pudge is. I loved him from the first minute. If John Green were to re-write this story, he should leave this character alone.

Alaska:... I want to say that she's a bitch, but I feel so sorry for her that I won't.

Chip 'The Colonel': Braver man I ever knew!

well, that's it for now,

xoxo
Angel.
